Humanity’s uneasy alliance with the godlike Ascendant is fragile and full of unanswered questions. After the Ascendant's sudden arrival reshaped the world—ending wars, healing the climate, and erasing famine—they promised only one thing: they are here to protect mankind from the Daemons, ancient monsters awakened by their return.
To coordinate global defense, the Ascendant helped establish AEGIS, a joint command structure where human strategy and Ascendant power operate side‑by‑side. At the center of this effort is James “J.T.” Tower, Operations Commander, tactician, and the man responsible for keeping humanity alive when gods and monsters collide. J.T. is brilliant, disciplined, and unflinchingly calm under pressure—but even he knows AEGIS is one bad day away from catastrophe.
Issue #1 is that bad day.
As J.T. oversees routine monitoring from the AEGIS command hub, a chaos rift erupts below Seattle. Before AEGIS can fully mobilize, the city is torn apart and Belazarus, an arch‑daemon of mythic scale, crawls out of the rift and attacks the city. Towering, ancient, and radiating corrosive power, Belazarus unleashes a wave of daemon possessions that twists civilians into monstrous thralls and sends the city into chaos.
J.T. races to coordinate AEGIS response teams, civilian evacuation corridors, and counter‑daemon containment—all while trying to understand why the daemon attacks seem to be happening more frequently, and the daemons are becoming more powerful than usual. As the battle intensifies, the Ascendant are losing.
The issue ends with Seattle in flames, AEGIS stretched to its limits, and J.T. realizing that the Ascendant’s war with the Daemons is far more personal—and far more dangerous—than humanity has been told.
